TIKOS ARE 100% RECYCLED OCEAN PLASTIC BRACELETS THAT CHALLENGE CONSUMERS TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC THAT WINDS UP IN OUR OCEAN.
SEASON ONE: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
If you’ve ever traveled to Cape Cod, then you already know that it’s a place that never leaves you. For as long as I can remember, this place has been my home; all of my best memories live here. After college, feeling lost in my career path, I found the humble beginnings of my company in the wake of the summer days that once made me feel so alive.
We founded Cape Clasp in 2013 when we created a bracelet shaped like Cape Cod and developed a non-profit partnership model with the Cape Cod National Seashore. We shared our story on social media, and after selling out of our first batch, started to think of ways to expand our line and support more non-profit causes.
Today, Cape Clasp is a purpose-driven brand on a mission to #makewaves for marine life. For each of our designs, we partner with a different marine life organization and donate 15% of our profits. In the past few years, we’ve donated over $70,000 to our non-profit partners.
Over time, we realized that it is our responsibility as a brand to not only support our non-profit partners, but to take a hard look at how our business and daily habits are impacting the ocean and take steps to lessen our environmental footprint.
This journey has been unfolding parallel with a growing call to reduce our reliance on single-use plastic. And this is for good reason: Eight million tons of plastic makes its way into the ocean every year – that’s about two garbage trucks worth every single minute.
If we all pledge to rethink our daily habits, our collective action can make a meaningful impact and turn the tide on our addiction to plastic. That’s why Tikós was born: to not only create a new market for the plastic that’s choking our ocean, but to challenge us all to make ocean-friendly choices in our daily lives.
Through it all, one aspect has remained key to our success – you. You and I share the same passion to make an impact and this has allowed us to continue doing work that we truly love. We are forever grateful. Thank you for believing in our mission, for helping us #makewaves, and for taking us with you on every adventure you find.
With our introductory season of Tikós, we wanted to both remove plastic from the ocean, but also challenge customers to reduce their daily plastic waste. The four colors of Season One act as daily reminders to Skip the Straw (Black), Bring the Bag (Navy), Clean the Coast (Tan), and Keep the Cup (Teal).
The Tikós cuff bracelets are all made with 100% recycled ocean plastic helping to reduce the eight million tons of plastic that winds up in the ocean every year. In addition to the bracelet itself, you can be happy to note that everything Tikós are shipped in/with are either recycled or recyclable, from our recycled mailers to the craft paper stickers.
Take the pledge to protect our oceans with Tikós.
SEASON TWO: BENEATH THE WAVES
Season Two of Tikós directly supports shark conservation in the Bahamas Shark Sanctuary through our partnership with Beneath the Waves. Each of the four Tikós are inspired by the colors of the Bahamas and the sanctuary's inhabitants including; Shark Gray, Coral Pink, Turtle Green, and Exuma Blue.
Bridging the gap between world-renowned marine biologists and the engaged, ocean-loving public, our newest non-profit partner Beneath the Waves is leading the charge on pushing the boundaries of shark science and conservation.
By partnering with academic institutions, local and international NGOs, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and engaged citizens interested in the future of our oceans, Beneath the Waves has tagged over 180 sharks. With information from these sharks, scientists can better understand the way they are utilizing habitats, where they are traveling, and ultimately how we can ensure a future in which sharks are thriving.
The second season of our Tikós bracelet is still everything you’ve come to love from Season One - 100% recycled ocean plastic; 100% guaranteed for life. Better science and a brighter future through collaboration - it’s just one small way we’re working to #MakeWaves every single day.
